dc.description.abstract | This essay examines the linguistic function of the allegorical sayings (Xiehouyu) in Jin Ping Mei and tries to understand the significance of the realization of such function to the characterization of the novelistic figures. Further, this essay compares the usage of allegorical sayings in both Jin Ping Mei and Xing Shi Yin Yuan Zhuan, and discusses whether or not the use of any allegorical sayings in a fiction affects its narrative style. | - |
