- Abstract
- This study aims to analyze the relationship between food consumption andunbalance of nutrients considering food consumption as recommended intakeof nutrients. To find food consumption pattern by aging pattern, not only thenumber of elderly member in household but also the household income levelare analyzed as main determinants. Additionally the interaction betweenincome and the aging pattern is also considered. The Model 1 which tries toanalyze determinants of food expenditure of household, and the Model 2which tries to analyze the intention of food consumption in which the bigdifferences in terms of consumption between the elderly and others areutilized for analysis. In the sense of recommended intake of nutrients, thechange of income in household has larger effects on food consumptionrather than the number of elderly member. According to Dietary ReferenceIntakes for Koreans on 2010, there are little differences for protein, vitamin, and minerals intakes between elderly and non-elderly people, so that theunbalanced intake of nutrients and decreased food consumption caused bydecline in income of the elderly might invoke the aged to have healthproblems.
