dc.description.abstract | Rice-farming is not only a most important source of Korean farmers’ income but also the basis for multifunctionality such as food security, environmental protection, ecological conservation, clean air free of green-house gas, and preservation of cultural diversity. In recent years, global warming is accelerating and concerns over climate change are gaining momentum. This paper focuses on the multifuntionality of rice-farming in conjunction with climate change. We evaluate monetary value of various attributes of alternatives for improved rice farming, by using choice experiments. A total of 200 households residing in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province were surveyed, where multinomial logit and mixed logit models were used to analyze the benefit of rice-farming multifuntionality to each household. The result was utilized to get at the estimated benefit of rice-farming multifuntionality to total paddy field and total population in Korea. This paper is expected to provide the agricultural policy makers with useful methodological framework and quantitative information as regards the significance of climate change in the future of rice-farming. | - |
