- Abstract
- Corrugated web beams for buildings can be used without stiffeners and have higher shear strength than flat webs because of the inclined folds. So far, corrugated web beams are usually combined with PC bridges. Due to thin webs, shear failure of most of the corrugated web beams occurs by shear buckling. Failure modes of the corrugated web beams are complicated; yielding, shear buckling, interaction between the yielding and buckling. Previous researches have been investigating the failure mode of the corrugated web, but it has not been clearly explained and there is not enough research about corrugated web beams with thin web for building structures. Also there is not enough full-scale experimental research on corrugated web beams for buildings.
In this paper, full-scale specimens for the elastic and inelastic behavior of corrugated web beam subjected to shear force were experimentally explored. With the results of the experiments, shear strength and failure mode were investigated. The shear strength of the corrugated web beam was compared with the Japanese recommendation, Eurocode 3 and the other previous researches. As a result, a modified equation for the shear strength is proposed and verified.
