Analyses and interpretations of the symbolic meanings contained in the names of Gugoks forming the Goesan Seonyu-gugok, names given to the surroundings and Gugok poetry show that key scenic features are concentrated within a short section of streams. The main motifs forming Seonyu-gugok consist of scenic features related to Taoist hermits and rituals based on environment-supporting elements. At the core is a desire for perpetual youth. This was interpreted as a symbolic representation of idea of harmony which ultimately requires god, mankind and nature to come together and form a balance. In particular, there is a strong appreciation for good luck and longevity based on the invariability of plants, spirituality of animals and homeostasis of natural objects that form the background. Within the inner thoughts of Joseon scholars who managed and enjoyed Seonyu-gugok is confidence that the place is utopia where they meet or become Taoist hermits. Built in the middle of this place of recreation was Palseonjeong where Taoist hermits appreciated the beautiful scenery. Unlike other Gugoks, Seonyu-gugok has a Taoist hermit motif which effectively depicts the solid characteristics of landscape gardens. It shows a realistic representation of the basic aspects and principles of traditional landscapes. This means that Seonyujeong should be thoroughly researched to achieve a complete restoration of the 'Seonyu-gugok Landscape Garden'. Immortal Taoist hermits who represent Taoism are key presentation motifs in modern landscaping. The invariability and spirituality of nature and the homeostasis of the surrounding environment that can support such characteristics are the most important elements and values that should be present in landscape gardens.-
