It has been argued frequently that a series of fundamental transformations in the global era calls for the need for rethinking of nationalism and its socio-political roles. And we are witnessing a widespread emergence of analyses of justice beyond the context of the nation-state. However, there are few scholarly attempts to explore in what way nationalism can be reconstructed for the establishment of peaceful relationship in the global era. This is due not only to the simple antinomies between nationalism and globalism, exclusiveness and inclusiveness, and unity and diversity. It is also due to the fact that scholars tend to neglect the revitalized power of nationalism in the global era. By investigating David Miller’s political theories, this interview aims at reconsidering the generative relationships between nationality and social justice in three aspects: the rationale of desert as a distributive principle with respect to its probability under the banner of social justice, the justification of nationality as the best possible identity that gives rise to an effective recognition of moral duties between citizens, and the applicability of liberal nationalism as a regulative principle for multicultural coexistence in South Korea as well as peaceful coexistence between countries in East Asia.-
