dc.description.abstract | Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the drinking behavior and alcoholism among college students in Seoul & Gyeong Gi Province, Korea. Methods: In 2008, 416 college students were selected by random sampling. A questionnaire was used to examine the relationship between the drinking behavior and alcoholism among the aforementioned students. The methods of statistical analysis for the data analysis were frequency analysis, cross tabulation analysis, logistic regression analysis. Results: The results based on this research method and data analysis are as follows: First, the research revealed that there is not, in fact, a difference in alcoholism in regards to the gender of the students. Second, the results show that as the drinking frequency of students increases, their chance of getting alcoholism also increases. Third, the research shows that the more college students drink, the higher their chance of getting alcoholism. Fourth, when college students drink alone, their chance of getting alcoholism is the highest, but if they drink with their family, it lowers their chance of getting alcoholism. Fifth, when college students have nothing to do or they feel blue or desperate, their chance of alcoholism increases. Sixth, when comparing the students of different conditions after their consumption of alcohol, the results indicated that the students who had a fight, lost their belongings, or experienced financial difficulties, are affected more by alcoholism than the students who did not have a fight, did not lost their belongings, or did not experience financial difficulties. Conclusion: In conclusion, since alcoholism has increased among female college students, more educational programs on alcoholism should be enforced for the female college students. Second, to decrease the number of cases of alcoholism among college students, the participation of healthy and appropriate leisure sports should be increased. Third, to decrease the amount of alcohol consumption from too much drinking, the "drinking culture" that forces and offers the students to drink more should be changed. Also, the students should not drink by themselves, but if they do drink, they should develop the habit of drinking with their family members. Next, whenever the students are free or when they are suffering from both emotional and physical problems, they should maximize their time for leisure activities rather than drinking. Finally, when the students commit crime or cause trouble after drinking, the overall punishment should be increased more. | - |
