Abstract
The proton conductivity of KH2PO4 (KDP) was modified by means of proton irradiation. Our neutron diffraction and high-resolution H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance measurements indicate that modification in the O center dot center dot center dot O bond length in the KDP system induced by the proton-beam treatment is responsible for the change in the proton conduction, which is accompanied by a reduction in the proton-hopping activation energy.
