- Abstract
- This study investigates variations in the structural and physico-chemical properties of sewage sludge due to application of ultrasonic energy for the purpose of obtaining enhanced dewaterability. The study involved the laboratory experiments with various test conditions including power of ultrasonic energy, application time, and volume of the test specimens. Results of the experiments show that the average particle size of the sonicated sewage sludge decreases which can be attributed to a separation of the sludge flocs. SCOD/TCOD(soluble COD/total COD) and DDCOD(Degree of disintegration) increases with the application of ultrasound. Ultrasonic energy decreases capillary suction time(CST) of the test specimens significantly.
