The performance of cometabolic bioventing is controlled by a complex combination of physical, chemical and biological factors. To investigate the interplay between physical and biological removal mechanism and their potential influence on the efficiency of cometabolic bioventing, one dimensional simulation domain is assumed. The input parameters are collected from literature and field data. The first objective is to examine efficiency and bacterial and contaminant distribution in the domain when methane is injected with pulsing. From that, pulsed pumping enhances biodegradation due to increasing contaminant residence time in the domain. Biodegradation significantly enhanced when methane is pulsed for 1 hour with 3 hours resting. But as the pulsing time is decreased the time for 99% removal is also abruptly increased and at the center of the domain bacterial growth is not so much because of product toxicity. There can be some trade off between biodegradation and time. The second objective is to investigate the effect of air-water interface adsorption. It is shown that the retardation increases contaminant residence time and also increases biodegradation. Current models has not been included air-water interface adsorption, and the models can overestimate the contaminant transport velocity and underestimate the quantity of biodegradaded pollutant.-
