Upon analysis, the research aims to find the discoursestructure as well and pragmatic strategies, in addition based on thoseobservations we will explore linguistic patterns. According to the research, itwas found that a general e-mail structure was ‘opening, supportive moves l,request head act, supportive moves II, and closing’. As for request strategiesthe structure of ‘want statement, hedged performative, conditional appreciationand condition’ was found to be frequently used. Supportive moves strategieshad a higher frequency of the use of ‘grounds of request, amplification, andproviding related information to the request’. In order for language learners tobe aware of these special characteristics found in e-mail writing, there is aneed for specified training. This paper aims to suggest educational training tofamiliarize language learners with the discourse structure, linguistic patternsand request strategies of e-mails in formal situation so that they will be ableto successfully communicate through e-mail without pragmatic failures.-
