- Abstract
- This study tries to explain a ‘dual failure’ of the Korean universities in human resources development and in investigation of truth as well. The dual failure is strongly related with a historical colonization process of academia which means that the academia has long been subordinated to the capital and political power. The “ivory tower” for truth investigation has in the meantime become an educational capital which pursuits directly the maximization of profit. Simultaneously, the mission of human resources development for business firms has not been so successful as expected. qualitatively as well as quantitatively.
The historical and ongoing colonization of academia was and is not only a product of an external power. It was and is also internally prepared and accepted, which in turn was and is a result of the identification of strongest. This implies that the overcoming of the colonization of academia and the resilience of the ivory tower of truth should start from a critical self-reflection among the whole academia members and go forward to innovate the social structure as a whole. The academia and the education is not commodities, not even a capital.
