- Abstract
- The purpose of this article is to trace the evolution of the relationship between A.S. Pushkin and F.R. de Chateaubriand. The issue of Chateaubriand's influence on Russian literature and Pushkin's creation and worldview in the first half of the 19th century has received much attention in academia, but has yet to be fully resolved. Above all, since research on the relationship of influence is mainly focused on the specific period (the 1920s or 1930s) of Pushkin's creation, it lacks a global perspective and there are still many controversial points on the theme. Moreover, the problem of the direct influence of Chateaubriand on Pouchkine is not easy to approach because the influence of Byron is interposed between these two poets.
In view of this, rather than examining in depth a specific topic or making new statements, this article presents the studies and discussions that have taken place so far on Pushkin's reception of Chateaubriand through his literary and critical works, such as Evgeny Onegin, the Southern epic and the critique on the traudition of Milton's Lost Paradise by Chateaubriand. Through this study, we we were able to notice that Pushkin took as his vocation the establishment of modern national literature just like Chateaubriand and that he made Chateaubriand a model in the realization of this vocation.
