- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of local residents' perceptions of the outreach programs of college sport teams on their attitude towards these teams and the universities themselves, and further to investigate the mediating role of attitude towards the college sport teams. A data of 232 responses in a survey of local residents was analysed. The data were processed using SPSS 27.0, employing exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and regression analysis. In addition, Hayes's Process 4.0 was used to examine mediating effects.
The main results of the study were as follows: First, the local residents' perceptions of the outreach programs of college sport teams had a positive effect on their attitude towards both the sport teams and the universities. Second, the attitude towards college sport teams positively affected the attitude towards the universities. Third, a partial mediating effect of attitude towards college sport teams was identified in the relationship between the perceptions of outreach programs and attitude towards the universities.
In conclusion, it has been confirmed that the outreach programs conducted by college sport teams can be utilized as a beneficial tool for promoting the development of both the university and the community.
