Purpose: Korea, one of the countries with most built high-rise buildings, and many densified urban mega-blocks continue to refine its planning regulations and approval process with room for improvement. Meanwhile, recent year’s acceleration of high-rise building construction across the globe has brought attention from many academic researchers and policy-makers around the world for developing design guidelines and policies that will ensure responsible high-rise, high-density developments. Purpose of this paper is to evaluate Korea’s current status in the context of global trends. This research will provide the basis for developing design guidelines for future high-rise, high-density block developments possibly, beyond the legal boundaries. Method: This paper examines, reviews relevant regulations and design guidelines of four international cities that affect urban integration of high-rise, high-density blocks and A few common design parameters that directly influence physical morphology of such typology are identified for further evaluation of the recent projects in Korea. Result: The research identifies limitations of Korea’s current policies through analysis of actual projects based on the selected morphological parameters and provides recommendations for improvements.-
