- Abstract
- This study was conducted to identify the residents’ perception on the relative importance of individual design elements from the perspective of crime prevention in designing the apartment housing in Korea. In order to do that, AHP questionnaire was conducted for the total number of 72 residents. And among the 72 residents, 31 residents' answers which were reliable in terms of logical consistency in their answers were analyzed. The results of the analysis revealed that apartment housing residents in Korea perceived that semi-private/private spaces were the most important in terms of crime prevention, and building entrance, lightings, units, pedestrian routes, CCTV/alarm bells were perceive as important design elements in designing the apartment housing. Finally, some implications in designing safer apartment housing were suggested based on the results. In order to alleviate the residents’ fear of crime, it was suggested to control the access of outsiders appropriately at the building entrance and the access of outsiders creeping up by the gas pipe.
