This paper explores the development and transformation of the peasant theme in Turgenev's works, focusing on A Sportsman's Sketches and Poems in Prose as the main subjects of analysis. The peasant theme is realized in a similar manner in both Sportsman's Sketches and Poems in Prose yet there are subtle differences between the two collections. While Sportsman's Sketches focuses more on the real issues of Russian countryside and peasants, Poems in Prose expresses the peasant theme in a figurative and symbolic manner. Sportsman's Sketches emphasizes the realistic problems of Russian rural life and peasants. In this collection of short stories, Turgenev realistically depicts the daily lives and hardships faced by the peasants, highlighting their human dignity and inner strength. On the other hand, Poems in Prose emphasizes the attitude of peasants confronting existential situations such as death. In Poems in Prose Turgenev delves deeply into the lives and deaths of peasants, exploring their spiritual capacities and moral qualities. Through this, he extends the peasant theme beyond a mere sociological perspective to the essential dimension of human existence.
