외국인 학부생의 생성형 AI 활용 현황과 교육 요구 분석 - 한국어 고급 수준 학습자를 중심으로 -

The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status and perceptions of generative AI use in the context of university academic work among international undergraduate students with advanced Korean proficiency, as well as their educational needs related to AI. Based on these findings, this study aims to derive implications for educational practices targeting international undergraduate students. To this end, a survey was conducted with 106 international undergraduate students with advanced Korean proficiency enrolled at University A in Korea. The analysis of the survey responses revealed that most international undergraduate students were using AI in the process of performing academic tasks at university. AI was primarily used for purposes such as understanding concepts, summarizing and organizing materials, and translation. The amount of time spent using AI was generally less than one hour per day, and the students tended to perceive that AI use was highly helpful for academic performance. When entering prompts, a high proportion of students used their native languages. In addition, they reported difficulties in judging the factual accuracy of AI-generated outputs, mainly due to a lack of background knowledge and concerns about the reliability of information. The demand for AI-related education was generally high, particularly for learning effective ways to use AI for academic tasks and for developing effective prompt-writing skills. These findings suggest that AI education for international undergraduate students should be designed to enhance strategic AI use in academic contexts, strengthen prompt design skills, and improve students’ ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs. Furthermore, AI education should be designed in consideration of learners’ tendency to use their native languages when interacting with AI tools.
