일제강점기 여심 주요섭의 교육개혁안과 서구교육학 소개: 언론 활동을 중심으로

초록

This study examined Ju Yo-Seop(朱耀燮)’s educational activities through the media in Japanese colonial era, focusing on the educational reform plan and the introduction of Western pedagogy. This is summarized as follows. First, Ju Yo-Seop pointed out the lack of educational facilities during the education of Joseon led by the Japanese Goverment-General of Korea in Japanese colonial era. As a solution to this problem, ‘three schools in one district’(1面 3校) was proposed along with the expansion of educational facilities through the expansion of education finances of the Japanese Government-General of Korea. Second, he emphasized progressive education based on the generosity and experimental spirit of teachers, criticizing education at the time when cramming and one-size-fits-all education were the mainstream. Third, at that time, practical and specific methods for compulsory education were proposed in Joseon. Fourth, he introduced Western pedagogy such as educational philosophy, educational methods, educational psychology, and hygiene education through the media. The characteristics of his educational reform plan are as follows. First, rather than simply appealing to the reader's emotions, he carried out his arguments in a way that systematically and logically developed based on objective and factual data to reach a conclusion. Second, when more specific examples or clearer understanding were needed in the process of discussion, he explained with his actual educational experience. Third, his proposals for educational problems or educational reform that appeared in the educational reality at the time were very realistic, not abstract or theoretical.
