Shin, Jiyoung. 2011. 02. Phonology and ‘Regulation of Korean (Eomungyujeong)’. Korean Linguistics 50, 29-49. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the phonological observation on Korean is reflected in the ‘Regulation of Korean (Eomungujeong)’ and to discuss some problems in the regulation. Especially, ‘Regulation of Standard Korean Pronunciation (Pyojunbareumbeop)’ is the main concern of the present paper. A literature review on ‘ㅚ, ㅟ’, ‘ㅔ, ㅐ’ and ‘vowel length’ reveals that phonemic status of these sounds has been discussed during the last 5-6 decades based on the same observation: relatively strong in old generation and very weak in younger generation.
