Blockchain Technology Adoption Index

Research Purpose: This paper introduces the Blockchain Technology Adoption Index (BTAI) to measure the blockchain technology adoption level from institution, market, and technology perspectives. Research Methods: This paper selects sixteen variables and applies Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to produce BTAI for sixty countries. Results in Research: The results show that the top ten countries are mainly in Western Europe, North America, and some information technology driven countries such as India and Singapore in Asia. On the other hand, the bottom ten countries are mostly African countries along with some countries such as Indonesia and Pakistan in Asia, and Ecuador in South America. It is also noticeable that the BTAI score of the US stood out even among the top countries. Research Conclusion: Korea is ranked 25th and some policy recommendations are addressed to enhance blockchain technology adoption in Korea.
