Epitaphs had the great strength that they were not inscribed in later generations but at that time. There were various ways of writing era used on epitaphs of Goryeo Dynasty such as the sexagenary cycle, and era name, calendar of Goryeo King, Jupiter calendar, calendar of the 1st year of the sexagenary cycle, the age of the dead person. Foreign era names were mostly used. In case of Goryeo King era, calling the year of the king's accession the first year was the main tendency. On the epitaphs of Goryeo Dynasty, there were cases having the national name such as ‘Goryeo'. In early Goryeo Dynasty there were quite many cases having Chinese nations on it, but it disappeared through the reign of King Hyunjong. Imperial order was used by King Gwangjong, and then was changed to king's command by King Seongjong, but from the next year the Imperial order restored. The death of kings was described as Bung(崩). Haeng(行) and Su(守) used as official terminology.
