초록

Temperature, as an affecting factor, influences physiological systems in point of their structure and function. Hyperthermia has gained extensive research due to its promising results in disease diagnosis and treatment. Despite its importance, comprehensive knowledge about the way that temperature perturbation might affect cellular function and behavior is not available. This review highlights the effect of temperature elevation (hyperthermia) on cancer cells, including the molecular mechanisms underlying hyperthermia-induced cancer therapy. Due to the importance of stem cells in biology and medicine, the impact of temperature elevation on several aspects of stem cell functions and behavior is also discussed. In addition, the effect of hyperthermia on innate and adaptive immune systems regulation is reviewed. Finally, the challenges and perspectives of hyperthermia-based therapies for biomedical applications are presented.
