초록
This paper presented results of the laboratory tests conducted to investigate ultrasonically induced seepage and enhanced hydraulic conductivity using specially designed and fabricated equipment. The test conditions involve soil type (the fine aggregate, the Ottawa sand, and the natural soil) and sonication power. The test results indicate that ultrasound induces seepage. It is also seen that the rate of hydraulic head variation with time is greatest for the fine aggregate, intermediate for the Ottawa sand, and smallest for the natural soil. Replicates of constant-head tests were conducted under a hydraulic gradient of 4.6 without and with sonication at 100 W power. The test results show a significant increase in permeability. The degree of enhancement appears to be greatest for the natural soil, intermediate for the Ottawa sand, and smallest for the fine aggregate.
