SF시의 문학교육적 가능성 연구

초록

This study explores the potential of science fiction (SF) poetry as a way for literary education to respond to future societies and foster the values o f coexistence i n an e ra o f uncertainty, featuring r apid technological shifts and ecological crises. The discussion of SF literature traditionally focuses on the novel genre, which embodies imaginary worlds through causal narratives, whereas educational discussions on SF poetry, which perceives the world through implications and affect, remain insufficient. Therefore, this paper defines SF poetry as “a form and practice of poetic language that defamiliarizes the current humans and world through the medium of the future or imaginary time and space, prompting reflection on existence beyond humans.” It examines its literary educational possibilities for high school learners across three dimensions. First, SF poetry helps learners reflect on the present and reconfigure their daily senses through the distance provided by the “future.” It utilizes temporal gaps and imaginary technologies to alienate ordinary life, evoking unique human ethical values that must be preserved amidst technological advances. Second, SF poetry offers an infinite space for imagination through poetic language detached from physical and logical constraints. Overlapping heterogeneous dimensions and boundaries between different domains expand learners’ poetic thinking and interpretive capacity. Third, SF poetry breaks away from an anthropocentric worldview to explore the possibility of coexistence and solidarity with various non-human others. Imagining the mutual care of mechanical beings or the transition to non-human entities provides learners with the opportunity to transcend anthropocentric arrogance. Consequently, SF poetry serves as a meaningful educational asset that cultivates the ecological citizenship and community awareness encouraged in the recent curriculum while building the capacity to respond to future uncertainties. This study is significant because it diversifies the subject matter of literary education through SF imagination, which is familiar to digital native learners, and guides them to reflect on sustainable ways of living where humans and nonhumans coexist.
