Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease associated with dysregulated T-helper (Th) subsets and has been linked to gut microbiota. This study investigates the potential of Lactobacillus strains, isolated from the Korean fermented food kimchi, to alleviate psoriasis. Mice were orally administrated with Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus curvatus, and Lactobacillus sakei, followed by the induction of psoriasis using topical imiquimod treatment. Oral administration of L. plantarum resulted in significantly lower PASI scores and reduced ear thickness compared to controls, while L. curvatus and L. sakei had less pronounced effects. Histological analysis and serum IgE levels indicated a reduced inflammatory response in L. plantarum-treated mice. Additionally, flow cytometric analysis and cytokine ELISA revealed an increased population of Treg cells and higher IL-10 levels in the L. plantarum-treated group. These findings suggest that L. plantarum from kimchi attenuates imiquimodinduced psoriasis, possibly through Treg cell-mediated IL-10 secretion, potentially lowering inflammatory cytokines such as IFN-gamma and IL-17A.
