Micro light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and nanorod-LEDs have emerged as promising candidates for next-generation display and lighting technologies due to their superior brightness, energy efficiency, and resolution potential. This review summarizes recent advances in the fabrication processes of micro- and nanorod-LEDs tailored for miniaturized devices. Furthermore, it highlights surface passivation techniques critical to mitigating surface recombination losses, particularly relevant at nanoscale dimensions. Finally, we explore the role of localized surface plasmon coupling with metallic nanostructures as a powerful method to enhance internal and external quantum efficiencies. Through a systematic overview, this paper underscores the synergistic integration of precise fabrication, robust passivation, and plasmonic coupling in optimizing the performance of micro- and nanorod-LEDs for commercial and research applications.
