실시간 AI 통역 시스템 적용 수업에서 이주배경학생의 수업 참여 경험과 영향 요인 분석

초록

This study aims to explore the classroom participation experiences of students with immigrant backgrounds in classes using a real-time AI interpretation system, examine the factors influencing these experiences, and analyze the structural relationships among those factors. To this end, individual interviews and participant observations were conducted with 12 students and 2 teachers at A High School, and the collected data were analyzed using M-GTA. The findings showed that the positive experiences and outcomes of classes using a real-time AI interpretation system included ‘immediate comprehension of difficult vocabulary and improved understanding of lesson content’, ‘reduced burden of students’ direct translation during class’, and ‘a sense of familiarity with students’ native languages and increased peer interest in multiculturalism’. The limitations included ‘interpretation errors caused by insufficient understanding of linguistic context’, ‘meaning distortion resulting from errors in recognizing sentence boundaries and punctuation’, ‘technical issues such as interpretation speed, screen configuration, and speech recognition’, and ‘concerns regarding decreased motivation for learning Korean’. The findings also revealed that students’ classroom participation experiences were shaped by the complex interaction of personal, organizational, institutional, and environmental factors. These results provide foundational data for exploring the educational applicability of real-time AI interpretation systems and informing future educational support policies and instructional designs for students with immigrant backgrounds.
