Shindon was from a humble family, but was the person who developed his own life and promoted social reform in the late Goryeo Dynasty. He had to live a life as a slave during childhood. Fortunately he became a buddhist monk, but he was bullied to shut himself up in his room and to bury a dead body. He did Buddhist social activity, and then he got to gain fame. He could be influenced by various Buddhism. He was helpled by his relative of Yongsan Shin. Especially Shinye, brother-in-law of Goyongbo who exercised power as Empress Ki’s aides might help him. So Shindon had pro-Yuan background. As the power of military group was bigger, King Gongmin felt crisis and appointed Shindon who was not bound by faction and was able to promote radical reform. Shindon made a special administrative office and pursued the reform drive to straighten the affiliation of lands and people. He returned a lot of lands and people that men of power dispossessed to the original owner, people were happy all over the country. Reform of slavery among Shindon’s policies rose above the crowd, he accepted that slaves asserted freeman. So he was praised as a saint. He was popular to women and admired as incarnation of Manjusri because he treated men and women alike. His intense life was the journey to freedom and equality of human beings. We should critically accept the negative old records of Shindon because they were abstractly ambiguous.
