Relationship between Perceived Discrimination and Late-life Preparedness among Marriage Migrant Women in Korea: Impact of Social Support Based on Parental Status

Immigrants, often less prepared for later life than natives, face challenges such as discrimination and limited support. Research on old-age readiness in South Korea, amid an influx of marriage migrant women from Southeast Asia, is insufficient. This study analyzes the 2021 National Survey of Multicultural Families, which includes marriage migrants, naturalized citizens, and their spouses, to explore how various types of support moderate the relationship between discrimination and late-life preparedness among migrant women, both with and without children. Using moderated moderation, we examined interpersonal and institutional support effects. Unlike Western findings, migrant women with children prioritize old-age planning. Interpersonal support mainly affects those without children, while institutional support impacts those with children. Addressing discrimination and providing tailored support for migrant women is crucial.
