CO2 and CH4 are major greenhouse gases that accelerate climate change. However, dry reforming of methane suffers from catalyst deactivation due to coke deposition. We fabricate bimodal pore catalysts via evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) for combined steam and dry reforming of methane (CSDRM). Polystyrene (PS) beads serve as templates, aluminum isopropoxide as the precursor, and meso/macropores form via an etching. Catalysts are characterized by PS/Al weight ratios from 0.5 to 2.0 and evaluated for CSDRM at 800 degrees C with a CH4:CO2:H2O ratio of 1:0.4:0.8. The catalyst with a 1.5 PS/Al ratio produces syngas with an H-2/CO ratio of similar to 2, suitable for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and maintains stable performance over 100 h with resistance to sintering and coke. The optimal oxidizing agent ratio is identified through thermodynamic simulations. Morphological studies reveal well-dispersed Ni particles with proper pore spacing. These catalysts offer an effective pathway to convert greenhouse gases into syngas through the CSDRM process.
