The construction of transmission facilities is crucial in power systems, with transmission towers being a prominent example. However, their construction faces various challenges, such as increased costs due to resident complaints and land acquisition. To address these issues, there is a growing interest in reducing the structural profile of transmission towers to minimize their visual impact. Simplifying the tower shape by removing certain components has proven to be an effective strategy. This study focuses on reducing the inclination angle of the main posts to minimize the tower's geometric footprint. Additionally, it explores the feasibility of removing members like horizontal and auxiliary components to further streamline tower design. The investigation determined that maintaining a minimum of three horizontal members at the tower base is essential for structural integrity. Furthermore, adding auxiliary members can enhance the tower's resistance to buckling, thereby reducing the effective buckling length. The study found that reinforcing auxiliary members with hollow circular steel pipes significantly improves elastic buckling strength and load capacity compared to using L-angle main posts to reduce inclination angles. By reducing the inclination angle of the main posts to 4.5 degrees and replacing them with hollow circular steel pipes, the design resulted in a remarkable 74 % reduction in the transmission tower's footprint and a 21 % reduction in the wind-blocking area.
