- Abstract
- The potters of Bunwon were belonged to government in Joseon Dynasty. Theyhad been transmitted from generation to generation. They were 380 people whowere composed of professional sectors. They received wage from the government.
Their wage was paid by the cloth that received from local potters.
The potters of Bunwon organized group and elected a leader. They called theleader Byunsoo(邊首)After opening the port, the government had to restructure in 1883. Thegovernment transferred Bunwon to private company and dismissed some laborers.
The potters of Bunwon were belonged to the government, but they received thecommand of private company. Dualistic system that was different from belongingand commanding was weakened subordination to the government.
The potters of Bunwon resisted plunder of powerful family. They became amember of Donghak(東學) and took part in the Peasants’ War. After some time,the most of them withdrew the organization of Donghak because of thegovernment’s coercion.
