- Abstract
- We examined the effect of an aerobic exercise on the MnSOD antioxidants expression of retinal cytosoland retinal mitochondria in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. To achieve the purpose of this study, Male Sprague-Dawley rats (7 weeks of age) were divided into four groups (n=10 in each group): the diabetic control group(=A),diabetic low intensity exercise (6~8m min−1) group(=B), diabetic mild intensity exercise (14~16m min−1) group(=C),and diabetic high intensity exercise (18~20m min−1) group(=D). All rats in the exercise group were forced to run ona treadmill for 30 min at 0 degree of inclination. Retinal cytosol was extracted from retinal tissue and retinal mitochondriawas purified from the retinal cytosol relative activity (%) of retinal cytosol MnSOD for control, low exercise, mild exercise and high exercise group showed the following order of prevalence : B > C > D > A. Also MnSODexpress in retinal mitochondria was B > C > D > A for moderate group. MnSOD expression was most significant inlow intensity exercise group of retinal cytosol and mitochondria(p<.01). Changes in the blood glucose of diabetic groupshowed significantly between exercise groups and low intensity exercise group showed the biggest change(P<.01). Thechanges in the insulin concentration of blood serum showed significantly between exercise groups and low intensityexercise group showed the highest concentration. The degree of HOMA-IR showed significantly between exercisegroups and positively correlated with exercise intensity(P<.01). The present data suggested that antioxidants are regulatedby exercise training. Thus antioxidants belong to a class of selected metabolic factors that were upregulated inexercise stimulus.
