- Abstract
- The Korean government adopted the mandatory reporting system of foreign matters in food whenever they are detected. The objective of this study is to analyze the consumer’s value given to the less chance of foreign matters in food using the willingness to pay(WTP) and willingness to accept(WTA). The actual sales reduced due to the foreign matters detected in food are also analyzed. The foreign matter incident in the snack incurs the structural change of the sales. The WTA to be compensated when is detected are higher than the WTP to less foreign matters due to the improved management system higher than. The loss of the consumer’s welfare due to the foreign matters is estimated to 698 billion Won. However total cost of food industry for reducing the foreign matters is estimated to 536 billion Won. Therefore it could be used to design the policies and efforts to reduce the foreign matters.
