- Abstract
- Hollow porous poly (epsilon-caprolactone) microspheres with different structures were prepared using a solvent/non-solvent emulsion solvent extraction technique. The PCL concentration is an important factor for controlling the structure of hollow PCL microspheres. Hollow PCL microspheres with a porous polymer shell were formed when the polymer concentration was appropriate (12% w/v), whereas porous microspheres were produced when the polymer concentration was too high (20% w/v). The ability to incorporate silica xerogels into the PCL hollow microspheres was examined by scanning electron microscopy. These PCL hollow porous microspheres have potential applications in the local delivery of proteins and drugs. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
