- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to examine the leisure types of boarding school's students, and to deeply investigate the perception of the leisure so that this can provide the ideal guidelines for the teenagers' leisure attending boarding school. 4 middle schooler and 4 high schooler who were attending a boarding school which is located in Gyeonggi province were participated in this study, and the data were collected by in-depth interview, participant observation, and reflection diary as means of qualitative research method. The results of this study are as follows. First, leisure types of these students in this school are 'a playing game using electronic devices, a maintaining social community site or individual blog using computer, participating sports activities and club activities, talking to friends or senior students, and reading and appreciating.' Second, aspects of perception for the leisure of these participants of the study are, as positive aspects, 'a sense of freedom from ordinary school life, a mental stability, a close friendship with friends or senior students.' And, as negative aspects, 'a sense of guilty from carelessness of studying, anxiety and a stress, a lack of opportunities for working off student's frustration, and a state of distraction.' are observed. In conclusion, based on these results, first, it is very necessary to educate what the ideal leisure activity is for the boarding school students, and what these model cases are. Second, a development for the customized leisure programs for boarding school students, a invigoration for the management, and a post education via feedback are needed. This study is expected to provide a ideal leisure guideline for the students attending boarding school, and to provide a direction to teachers and educators working in boarding school and educational administrators.
