Abstract
Right in a typographical arrangement was created by the Copyright Act 1956 in UK. Its adoption into the Copyright Act is based upon both the great improvement in typographical design and development since the technique of photo-lithography. There was nothing publishers could do to prevent other publishers from appropriating the typographical design of fine editions of classical works. This situation is the same here in Korea. Because of the absence of, or weak, protection for publishers, publishers will have would incentive to publishers, and the publishing industry would collapse in Korea. This paper deals with the role played by the publishers in detail, and thus, argues the typo- graphical copyright should be adopted into the Korean copyright system. This paper also deals how, and what, the collecting society should do in enforcing typographical copyright by introducing its license and distribution of royalties by collecting societies in the UK. And finally this paper deals with issues which would arise if typographical copyright is adopted in the Korean copyright system.
