- Abstract
- This study examined the difference between intrinsic motivation and learning interest according
to the level of perceived competence in elementary school physical education class. The sample
consists of 1,756 students randomly selected from Seoul and Incheon. The questionnaires were the
Perceived Competence Scale for Children(PCSC), Intrinsic Motivation Inventory(IMI), and Course
Interest Survey(CIS). The data were analyzed through exploratory factor analysis, Alpha
coefficient, test-retest reliability, cannonical correlation, two-way MANOVA, one-way ANOVA,
and discrimination function analysis. The results indicated that perceived competence predicted
interest/effort and competence of intrinsic motivation for boys and girls, and that cognitive and
social competence predicted relevance, whereas social and physical competence predicted
satisfaction. The results are discussed from the point of view of motivation facilitation in physical
education class.
