- Abstract
- Given that next generation wireless communication technologies are expected to lead to broadband and ubiquitous networks, new business models have been established in nearly all fields of mobile communications. Many of these business models are dedicated to broadband data services such as satellite broadcasting, high speed mobile Internet, and high quality video/audio streaming, mainly delivering graphic-based information. However, the display size of today’s portable devices is too small to be the final gateway for such emerging business models and, because of the inherent tradeoff between display size and portability, the search for solutions remains a challenge. In this discussion, through the application of component-wise analysis of today’s portable devices, a “pervasive displays” concept is examined. In addition, to address a lot of related issues, discussion about the impact and opportunities of “pervasive displays” is presented.
