Abstract
The studies was carried out to restore the ecosystem deteriorated by the industrialization and urbanization, minimizing the environmental impact by the development plans and creating the substitutive habitats. The aquatic ecosystem as well as the water quality problem in stream and lake has been recognized as urging issue of securing the ecosystem soundness. From metropolitan city to local government, an enormous budget has been spent and the effort to improve the quality of life has been undergoing including the pleasant environment, biodiversity and ecosystem soundness improvement, but there are still many problems such as lack of understanding of ecological value, insufficient specialist, and inefficient national plans in many ecological fields. To keep and manage the sound aquatic ecosystem deals with the root of life. Recently national-demensioned large projects related to sound aquatic ecosystem have been proposed and carried out. One of those researches for the solution to the practical using of sound aquatic ecosystem through the investigation of Korean traditional village Bangjuk[dike] and the principle of aquatic system Our ancestors were provided with water for drinking and daily living from the common spring(well). They gathered the used water from each houses through the village waterway in to the Bangjuk and reused it once again as the water supply for fire-fighting or farming. This reused water flows into the stream or rice paddy field in front of the village. It means that they had managed the water quality and quantity integrally and had kept up with the sound aquatic ecosystem through their daily lives. In traditional village, the movement of water means the flow of energy. Korean traditional village Bangjuk is a kind of pond that purify the gathered water by depositing and filtering contaminants. Also it is biotope that various amphibia, reptilia, fishes, and birds live with each other naturally. This study analyzed holistic function and environmental and ecological value of village Bangjuk in the case of Wonteo village in Kimcheon city and Dorae village in Naju city. In this study, the characteristics of water flow namely the flow of energy presented in Korean traditional villages were analyzed. And the ecological and social role of village Bangjuk through the waterway was investigated. This study suggested the plan as a role of tool of restoring the damaged aquatic ecosystem due to the industrialization and urbanization and securing the ecosystem soundness.
