Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of postpractical aerobic exercise intensity on blood variables related to appetite and energy metabolism in obese men. Method: Eleven obese men aged 22-26 participated in the treatment of high-intensity aerobic exercise (HIAE) and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (MIAE) two hours after the meal, respectively. Blood samples and visual analog scales (VAS) were measured at rest, immediately after exercise, and 60 minutes after exercise. Leptin, ghrelin, insulin, free fatty acid (FFA), triglyceride and glucose were analyzed with blood samples. VAS was used to evaluate appetite sensations. A two-way repeated measures ANOVA demonstrated a significant difference (p<.05). Bonferroni’s method was used for post-hoc analysis when a significant. Results: The results of this study are as follows. 1) VAS was higher at rest, immediately after exercise than 60 minutes after exercise in MIAE treatment. 2) Leptin concentrations were significantly different between times in the both treatments. 3) Ghrelin concentrations immediately after exercise and 60 minutes after exercise were lower in HIAE treatment. 4) FFA concentrations were higher immediately after exercise, 60 minutes after exercise than rest in the both treatment. Conclusion: In summary, the findings in this study suggest that HIAE and MIAE are effective for lipids metabolism activation. In particular, HIAE will benefit fat loss by decreasing blood ghrelin levels and VAS for measurement of appetite sensations.
