Abstract
This study explores scope ambiguity in Korean by investigating adults’ interpretation and on-line processing of sentences containing universally quantified direct object NPs and long-form negation with the particle –nun. The results of a self-paced reading and truth-value judgment task show that some participants preferred the not>all interpretation while others preferred the all>not interpretation. The results also suggest that the assignment of the less preferred interpretation may have caused more processing difficulty than that of the preferred interpretation. Processing difficulty is discussed according to O’Grady’s (2005, 2013, 2015) processing-based approach.
