- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to understand the physical effectiveness of climbing and to suggest the basic data by measuring and comparing the functional and structural differences of hearts of those who regularly conduct rock-climbing with those who do not. The subject group of this study consists of members of a rock-climbing club, instructors of a sports-climbing center and active sports-climbing athletes. The used devices are 64Multidector CT which enabled to scan the hearts and the bodies, Terarecon WS which made it possible to see the functions and structures of the hearts. For analysis, SPSS/PC 12.0 for Windows was used to calculate and compare the average(M) and the standard deviation(SD) between the subjects(climbers) and control group. For statistical purposes, α was set to 0.05, and after following the procedures and data analysis mentioned above, the following conclusion was reached:For the function of hearts, the results of HR, SV, SI, LVEDV, LVEDV/BSA, LVESV and LVESV/BSA showed meaningful differences between the two groups. However, EF, CO, CI, EdMV and EdMV/BSA did not leave any important differences. For structural part of hearts, the athlete group had higher LVIDd, LVIDd/BSA, LVIDs/BSA than the control group, but the results of LVIDs, LVPWd, LVPWd/BSA, LVPWs, LVPWs/BSA, IVSd, IVSd/BSA, IVSs, IVSs/BSA did not give significant difference
As a conclusion of the above experiment those who do regular exercise had better blood circulation for functional aspect and even though the thickness of hearts did not increase some portions of heart structure were improved.
