- Abstract
- Changing political realities of Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, require us to escape from typical bipolar perception of Korean History derived from Cold War and its consequence, the Division of Korea, and eventually to have Post-Cold War historical perception which would allow more communications among Northeast Asian states including North and South Korea, and provide more visions of reciprocal future-oriented relations.
Post-Cold War historical perception aims to go beyond dichotomous logics of "rule and resistance" and aims to accommodate already expanded time spans and spaces of horizon of current situations. Given this historical context of our time, we seriously need to pay attention to the fact that the perspectives and arguments with emphasis on geopolitical view points to rebut Cold War ideology, have been already suggested by Koreans during the process of nation buildings in divided Korea(1945-48).
Those perspectives and arguments are the expectations we need to take a closer look in a very practical level, when we are trying to build the frames of Post-Cold War historical perception and "Open Nationalism" of Korea.
