Abstract
In the 4th industrial revolution, interest in the metrology industry, which plays an essential role in the development of high-tech industries, has increased. However, the Korea’s metrology and measurement industry has low competitiveness due to its high dependence on imports of measuring instruments and technological inferiority compared to major advanced countries. Therefore, this study attempted to develop the Korea’s metrology industry through analysis of the importance and urgency of the mid- to long-term development strategy of the Korea Association of Standards & Testing Organizations, which plays a pivotal role in the development of the metrology and measurement industry using modified Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis) techniques. According to the analysis results, internal personnel evaluated ‘providing free education for industrial measurement personnel’ as the most important and urgent, and external personnel evaluated ‘policy/academic research and R&D expansion’ as the most important and urgent. Therefore, this study is meaningful in providing priorities for strategies for the development of the metrology industry.
