- Abstract
- Fast-developing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and BDA (Big Data Analytics) has led human society into the information society of the 21st Century and brought huge changes in the manner firms conduct business. Their stimulative effects were found in empirical research at the aggregated level as well. However, differences between their impact upon goods exports and services exports are rarely mentioned.
Empirical studies on BDA’s effects on a country’s exports are also rather limited.
This paper studies ICT and BDA’s effects on countries' export values with the latest data available from the OECD. The results from the regression analysis give a clearer understanding of the different effects the use of ICT/BDA may have on services and goods exports of a nation. The empirical analysis in this paper adopted the Fixed Effects model and FD-GMM model. Results show that the use of ICT and BDA in business have stimulative effects on both goods and services exports. The stimulative effects may appear earlier in services exports than in goods exports. Whether the effects are greater for services exports remains ambiguous, as the size and type of industries of the country could impact the results.
