Abstract
The aim of the study was to systematically review the effect of aquatic exercise on physical function among athletes. Aquatic exercise can be important role for physical function of human body. But, each evidence of aquatic exercise has difficult for understanding overall effects. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically review the evidence of aquatic exercise for better application in sports filed. The Pubmed, Scopus and Google scholar were systematically searched for relevant studies published between January 2006 and May 2018. The following search terms were used: “aqua”, “aquatic”, “athlete”, “water”, “exercise”, “sports”, “underwater” and “underwater exercise” Ten of the 945 retrieved articles met the 10 inclusion criteria. And, used for analysis effect of aquatic exercise on physical function. The results of this study were include analysis factor as follows: speed (7 papers), strength (3), heart rate, agility, flexibility (2), balance, performance, endurance, power, pain, anthropometric and physiological (1). There were improvement in aquatic exercise in all factors, but especially in heart rate, agility, endurance, and power. However, it showed lower effect than land-based exercise in the balance part. In this study, it is necessary to consider the clinical application for athletes through the effectiveness of each factor. However, there was a deviation in the number of articles on each factor, therefore it is need to various study to aquatic exercise for sports athlete.
