Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors influencing repatriation, and their relationship in the intercultural sojourning experience of Korean returnees. Through an extensive literature review, a survey questionnaire was designed with five variables constituting the research model; Cultural Adaptation (CA), Cultural Identity Strength (CIS), Transitional Change (TC), ‘Repatriation Preparedness (RP), and Repatriation Adjustment (RA). A positive correlation between CA and RA was discovered in the analysis. CIS also showed a positive relationship with CA and RA, which implies that Korean returnees who perceived stronger CIS evaluate both their sojourning and repatriation more positively. The influence of TC on CIS and RA failed to accept the inversely predicted relationships between each of them. TC’s influcence on RA appeared significant, on the other hand, its relation with RA showed no significance. Both results requests further understanding and interpretation concerning TC and its influence with the other scales. The relationship between RP and RA showed a positive correlation. These findings suggest some intriguing research possibilities for further application within the field of cross-cultural studies as an initial, empirical academic attempt highlighting the Korean returnees’ repatriation in corporate organizational context in Korea.
