- Abstract
- One of the most important criterions for the clinical acceptability and durability of fixed partial denture prosthesis is marginal and internal adaptation.
The purpose of this article was to compare four measuring methods of marginal and internal fits : 1) Cross-sectional method, 2) Microscope with CCD(Charge Coupled Device) camera method, 3) Replica technique method, and 4) Micro-CT(X-ray microtomography) method. Cross-sectional method : the crown was cemented on definitive dies, embedded and sectioned bucco-lingually and mesio-distally to measure using an optical microscope. Microscope with CCD(Charge Coupled Device) camera method : the selected marginal areas of the crowns were the labio-lingual, mesio-distal surface. The image of each marginal area was captured to computer files and light microscope connected CCD camera. The marginal gaps were measured using computer image analysis program. Replica technique method : light and heavy body silicone materials were used to record the marginal and internal fits. Then the crown was sectioned bucco-lingually and mesio-distally to measure the thickness of the silicone layer using a microscope. Micro-CT method : the core specimens were fitted on the master die, they were scanned with the use of a microtomography device. On microtom
